Most people think of those infrared bathroom lamps as just a way to stay warm while you’re getting ready in the morning. But if you look under the hood, they’re actually a pretty clever way to keep your bathroom from turning into a swamp.
How it actually works
Here’s the thing: most heaters just warm up the air. Infrared is different. It sends out waves that actually sink into your damp walls and ceilings. It basically shakes the water molecules loose, forcing the moisture out of the surfaces and into the air. Once that happens, your vent fan can actually do its job and pull the humidity out. It stops that heavy, stagnant feeling in the air where mold loves to move in and set up shop.
The gear inside
We use high-purity quartz glass for the bulbs. Why? Because these things get hot—fast. Ordinary glass would just crack under that kind of pressure, but quartz handles the heat without breaking a sweat. The best part is the speed. You don’t have to leave the heat on for an hour to get the room dry. It happens almost instantly. Just a heads-up: these lamps put out a lot of concentrated heat. Make sure your fixture is actually built for the wattage you’re using. You don’t want to accidentally melt a plastic trim or scorch your ceiling.
A few things to keep in mind
Wiring these in is usually a breeze, but they do pull a lot of power. If you load up a single circuit with too many of these, you’re probably going to trip a breaker. Just make sure your wiring can handle the load before you go all out. And yeah, the light is intense. It can be a bit blinding if you’re not expecting it. To make life easier, I’d suggest pairing them with a timer or a humidity sensor. That way, the lamps just kick on when they’re needed and shut off on their own. You get a dry, mold-free bathroom without even having to think about it.
