Let’s be honest: putting a standard infrared lamp in a bathroom or a wet industrial station is basically asking for trouble. Water gets in, things short out, and if the glass is cheap, it just shatters the moment a cold drop hits a hot surface. It’s a mess. That’s why we stick with IP65-rated enclosures and explosion-proof quartz tubes. It just stops the disasters before they start.
The deal with “Explosion-Proof” Quartz
Standard glass hates temperature swings. In a shower, that’s a death sentence. We use quartz because it doesn’t really expand or shrink when the temperature jumps. So, when cold water splashes onto a glowing red element? Nothing happens. No cracks, no pops. We also wrap everything in a protective mesh or a tempered shell. Look, if the inner tube ever does fail, the shell catches the shards and keeps the electrics tucked away. It keeps the person using it safe, which is the only thing that actually matters.
Keeping the water out
An IP65 rating is basically a fancy way of saying the housing is dust-tight and can handle a spray of water without blinking. We use high-temp silicone gaskets to seal the wiring. This is huge because it keeps steam from creeping into the terminals. If you’ve ever had a cheap heater “burn out,” it’s usually because moisture corroded the contacts. We don’t do that. One more thing: the chassis is die-cast aluminum. It acts like a heat sink, pulling warmth away from the internal electronics so the wiring doesn’t cook itself over time.
A few things to keep in mind
These units are beasts. They pack a ton of heat into a tiny space and warm your skin instantly rather than trying to heat up the whole room. But here’s the catch: because the seal is so tight, heat can build up inside the casing. You’ve got to make sure there’s a bit of breathing room around where you mount it. If you cram it into a tight corner with no airflow, you’ll trip the thermal cutoff switch during a long session. And for peace of mind? Just wire it to a GFCI circuit. Better safe than sorry.
