
Why we stopped building “disposable” mirror heaters
Most people treat bathroom mirror heaters as something you install once and then completely forget about. That’s fine—until five years down the road when the thing just stops working. With a standard mirror, a single burnt-out heating element is a nightmare. You can’t just “fix” it. You end up ripping the entire mirror assembly out of the wall. It’s a mess, it’s expensive, and it’s honestly a waste. We decided to do things differently. The “Cassette” Approach Instead of hard-wiring everything into the frame, we built our infrared heaters as independent modules. Think of it like a removable cassette. The heating element, the reflector, and the wiring are all tucked into one piece that slides right out. So, if a tube finally gives out? You don’t throw away the mirror. You just pull the module, swap the tube, and slide it back in. Simple. No more teardowns Replacing a part shouldn’t feel like a major construction project. We focused on making things easy to reach. By using standard connectors and a slide-in design, we cut the maintenance time down to a few minutes. You don’t need to hire a specialist or replace the glass. You just fix the part that’s broken and get on with your day. Keeping the mirror cool Here’s the tricky part: you need high-density heat to clear fog fast, but that kind of heat can eat away at adhesives and seals. If the heat sits too close to the glass, it can actually ruin the silvering on the back of the mirror over time. To stop that from happening, we created a gap. By decoupling the heat source from the mirror backing, we make sure the heat goes where it’s needed without “cooking” the mirror itself. Our goal is a system that lasts a decade. Sure, the modular design makes the footprint a tiny bit bulkier, but that’s a small price to pay for knowing your whole system won’t die just because one little component wore out.
