Most heaters try to warm up the air in the room, which takes forever. Infrared is different. It sends heat straight to your skin and the surfaces around you. The Gear: Keeping Water Out and Heat In
Bathrooms are brutal on electronics. Between the steam and the occasional splash, things can go south quickly. To stop that from happening, we use high IP ratings. Basically, we seal the guts of the heater and the housing so water can’t sneak in and fry the circuits. Inside, there’s a quartz halogen tube. These things are incredibly fast. We’re talking milliseconds before they’re glowing and pumping out heat. But you have to get the power right. If you go too heavy on the wattage, you’ll trip your breakers or overheat the box. Go too light, and you’re fighting a losing battle against cold tiles and damp walls. It’s all about finding that sweet spot for your specific room size.
Making it “Smart”
The best part is not even having to touch a switch. We tuck a Zigbee or Wi-Fi relay into the power stage. You can set a schedule or just tap an app on your phone, and the signal tells the controller to close the relay. Since there’s no heavy oil or metal that needs to warm up first, the heat is instant. We also pair these with occupancy sensors. That way, the heater doesn’t just run all day and burn out the filament while you’re at work.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
Nothing is perfect. Because this heat is so intense, it can feel a bit jarring if the unit is mounted too low. You’ll end up with “hotspots” where it feels like you’re standing too close to a campfire. Getting the height and angle right is key. And here’s a tip: smart hubs crash. It happens. That’s why we always include a physical override switch. Because if your Wi-Fi goes down on a Tuesday morning, you still deserve a warm bathroom.
