
Why we test every single lamp (and why you should care)
Every single heating lamp that leaves our floor goes through two brutal tests: HiPot and insulation resistance. If you’re using these for fab drying, you know the stakes. You’ve got high-wattage elements packed into a tiny space. One tiny leak in the insulation? That’s not just a broken lamp. That’s a short circuit that could kill your entire production line or, worse, turn your equipment chassis into a safety hazard. We don’t do “batch sampling.” I’ve seen too many companies test one out of every ten units and hope for the best. We don’t do that. We test every single one. Usually, the weak spots are at the seals or the connectors. To find them, we hit the lamp with a voltage way higher than what it’ll see in your machine. We’re basically trying to force any hidden flaws to show their face right now, in our shop, rather than on your floor. If the current leaks even a little too much, the unit is scrap. It’s a lot of work, but it beats the headache of a “burn out” happening two hours after you’ve finished commissioning your line. The second gate: Insulation Then we check the insulation resistance. We’re looking at the ohms between the live circuit and the outer housing. Think of it as a leak test. If the resistance is low, it means something is wrong—maybe some contamination got in, or there’s a microscopic crack in the quartz or ceramic seal. In a fab environment, moisture and chemicals love to creep into the circuitry. We make sure the power stays exactly where it belongs: heating your workpiece, not leaking into the frame. The honest truth about installation Now, here is the catch. Our tests catch the “lemons,” but they can’t fix a bad installation. You can have a perfect lamp, but if your wiring is frayed or your connectors are loose, you’re still going to see arcing. It’s just physics. These high-voltage lamps need a clean environment and precise torque on the terminals. And if you’re running these in a high-humidity zone, make sure your grounding system is actually up to the task.
